HFL S3 Offseason Winners & Losers
In a potentially league-altering offseason, many new faces and names are on the move. Which clubs increased their stock? Which ones are facing rough times ahead? And who’s future remains uncertain?
Biggest Overhauls: Bears and Lions’ Defenses.
The Packers’ dominance has been clear and evident in this division, and it’s still one of the most explosive offenses with reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jordan Spriggs and a ballyhoo of weapons. The way to climb in this division is going to be to improve on defense, and the Bears added rookie Corner Damien Rose, jack-of-all-trades Swiss Army knife Isaiah Simmons, and replaced Khalil Mack with slightly younger Carl Lawson as a premier pass rusher, while the Lions added the likes of AJ Terrell, Jeremy Chinn, Danielle Hunter, and Logan Bear to pair with the young toys that they acquired last year on offense. The Vikings added veteran Corner Kenny Moore to their defense, but not much more, so the race for second will come down to who can get the most production on that side of the ball.
Who is this team? Carolina Panthers
An entire new cast of characters, as it’s out with the old crew of McCaffery, Burns, and Chinn and in with Justin Herbert and Derrick Henry to add some star power and flavor to this club. Whether they are better or worse off for the future remains to be seen.
Biggest Losers: Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants
A mass exodus of Herbert, Andrew Thomas, James Bradberry, Adoree Jackson, and Leonard Williams leaves the G-Men in a very precarious position. Only a late move with Jacksonville to pick up Trevor Lawrence is a saving grace of the offseason, but the damage may have been done. The reigning champions lose Super Bowl MVP Darius Slay - to a division rival, no less - and THE emotional leader of not one, but two title teams in Fletcher Cox along the defensive front.
Benefit from continuity? Packers and Patriots
Two teams that mostly stood pat in the offseason, and rightfully so, that have virtually their entire core still together. Two of the most consistent HFL contenders are geared up for another run at the crown.
Sneaky winners: Washington Football Team and Indianapolis Colts
One of the under-the-radar winners of the offseason. They did not make the HUGE moves that other teams made, but some subtle moves like bringing in Cam Akers for half of Antonio Gibson’s asking price, bringing back Andrus Peat for $7M cheaper along with two promising offensive line picks, and adding Cooper Kupp, whose short-to-intermediate game pairs nicely with Justin Jefferson as a deep threat. The Colts picked up the steal of the draft in 5th Round Wide Receiver Jackson Brown Jr. to help out their young quarterback Tito Ramos.
