HFL S3 Offseason Winners & Losers

In a potentially league-altering offseason, many new faces and names are on the move. Which clubs increased their stock? Which ones are facing rough times ahead? And who’s future remains uncertain? Biggest Overhauls: Bears and Lions’ Defenses. The Packers’ dominance has been clear and evident in this division, and it’s still one of the most explosive offenses with reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jordan Spriggs and a ballyhoo of weapons. The way to climb in this division is going to be to improve on defense, and the Bears added rookie Corner Damien Rose, jack-of-all-trades Swiss Army knife Isaiah Simmons, and replaced Khalil Mack with slightly younger Carl Lawson as a premier pass rusher, while the Lions added the likes of AJ Terrell, Jeremy Chinn, Danielle Hunter, and Logan Bear to pair with the young toys that they acquired last year on offense. The Vikings added veteran Corner Kenny Moore to their defense, but not much more, so the race for second will come down to who can get

A deeper dive into the Niaz Williams situation

Last week, Ron Rivera made the shocking announcement that the Washington Football Team was shutting down quarterback Niaz Williams for the remainder of its season. This has prompted many questions and speculation around the league. It certainly has been a disappointing season in the nation's capital, a team that looked like it had the talent to possibly make a very real run got off to a rocky start at 2-9 and was, at one point, in the pole position for the top pick next April. This was before a current 3-game winning streak, including last weekend's 34-30 victory over the New Orleans Saints in backup Cam Anderson's first career start. The press conference that immediately ensued the announcement left even more questions than it provided answers.  Reporter 1: "Is the decision to shut down Williams a health-centric one, on your part?" General Manager: "That does play a factor. We still see Niaz as a valuable asset to this organization and we are for protecting

Journey to the Pros: Buchi Chidozie

Buchi was born just outside of Atlanta, GA. He was naturally athletic, despite being "undersized" compared to the titans that exist in the US southeast. Always smiling, always hard-working, never backing down from any challenge, Buchi made a name for himself growing up. In high school he immediately made an impact on the varsity football team, his speed was too much for the opposing high school offensive lines. Chidozie continued his dominance through his high school career, netting quite a few scholarship offers from some big names in the sport. USC, Florida State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, just to name a few. But he still wasn't getting attention from the tip-top of the iceberg. No one was interested in a 5'11'' defensive end. Discussions with the schools that offered him scholarships revealed that he'd likely be a back-up role for a good bit of his collegiate career or that they'd transition him over to outside linebacker. So Buchi started loo

Journey to the Pros: Jaylen Carter

The 2022 HFL Draft was undoubtedly one of the most special moments for our family. I, Jameel Carter, sat in the Green Room with our entire family, as we watched my younger brother Jaylen realize the culmination of a lifelong dream. I wanted to take this moment, and use my platform, to share his story, because he earned it and we are so so so so proud of him.  The story of Jaylen’s recruiting process really goes back to that of my own, so I do need to provide a recap of how that went to inform the uninitiated. So, I burst onto the recruiting radar during his Junior year at City View High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. I had transferred from Wichita Falls High School (Class 5A) to City View (3A) after being stuck on Junior Varsity for my first two years, and had a strained relationship with a few of the coaches on the staff. I really shined at CVHS - as a Wildcat Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Back, and occasional Linebacker - but there were a few pundits that onl

2024 HFL Draft Grades

AFC   Bills R1P23: OT Matt James C+ R2P38: CB Forrest Ward B R2P55: S Andrew. Sharpton B+ R4P119: IOLCameron Clancy B R5P151: IOL Maxwell Stephens B- R6P183: CB Greg Hyde B+ R7P215: QB Dan Allen C Grade: B- There were certainly better Offensive Tackles available than Matt James, but the Bills came in with a plan to attack the offensive line, and they came out with three developable prospects - and I really like both of the interior pieces that they picked up. Many knocked Forrest Ward for his size, but that’s not how I operate in evaluating talent because that’s not how sports works. You can be a good corner at 5’9” or 6’3”. You can be a good Point Guard at 5’10” or 6’8”. It’s about skills and traits, period. And Forrest Ward certainly has those. If size was all that mattered, Tacko Fall would be the best hooper in the world, LeBron James would be better than Michael Jordan, and John Elway would have the greatest collection of quarterbacks ever drafted.
